What is the best way to keep my wok clean?

I know that a wok is supposed to be kind of charred and dirty looking on the bottom over time. But mine has more and more stuff sticking to the bottom every time I cook. I wash it clean every time, but just wonder how ';dirty'; it should be, and any tricks for keeping it clean? It's a year old and quality with teflon.

Thanks! What is the best way to keep my wok clean?
directly after cooking in it (never store food in it), run under hot water. scrub with plastic scrubber, dry, dry, dry (on the burner), inside and out. make sure all water has evaporated. when cooler, use paper towel to spread a thin layer of shortening (unsalted lard is best, NEVER oil), heat again, wipe out oil, and store with layer of paper towels in the bottom to wick out any moisture. store in very dry place.

yes it is supposed to look kind of grungy, but that is the ';seasoning'; building up, which makes your wok ';nonstick';.

take care of it, and it will last a lifetime, and will take good care of you! What is the best way to keep my wok clean?
if its teflon I cant help you. If its iron or plain metal...then you have to season it. It needs to be coated with oil and wiped out with a paper towel and baked in the oven at 350 for an hour. It may smoke...if it does take it out and wipe again...repeat the process several times. When you wash it you need to use really hot water and a sponge. Not metal sos pads and never soap beacause it kills the coating. Use oil when cooking in it. The more you use it the better it gets. No dishwasher.
